Ian

Mr. Ian Sullivan

Theatre instruction and directing are both passions and callings of mine.  As an accomplished high school theatre teacher, teaching artist with children’s theatres, community theatre board member, playwright, and director, I bring a diverse set of tools to my work.

I have worked in the field of theatre education since 2003, in a variety of different roles and atmospheres.  At Children’s Theatre of Charlotte and Ballantyne Arts Center, I work small groups of enrichment classes in focused areas of skill building.  I have also directed numerous shows for young audiences and with young actors.  I have had the unique opportunity to work with performers ranging from pre-K to adults.  These experiences have instilled a sense of joy and fun in my directing and teaching in order to get students invested in theatre.

The performing arts are meant to entertain, but also to educate, motivate, and promote empathy.  I use my programs to build relationships between students, departments, and the community.  I believe that theatre arts are an incredible tool for positively affecting children and young adults.  Through drama, we can open them up to different paradigms, teaching them to become critically thinking and emotionally sympathetic people.
